Gifu Prefecture

Gifu Prefecture lies in the center of Japan, and has a population of 2 million people. It is often referred to as the crossroads of Japan, and during the Sengoku Period a common saying was "control Gifu and you control Japan." Its capital city, Gifu City, has a population of 422 thousand people, and many warlords in the Sengoku Period, particularly Oda Nobunaga, used it as a base of operations.
