Nara City

Nara, the capital of Nara Prefecture, has a population of 368 thousand people. It was the capital of Japan for less than a century during the Nara Period. It was modeled after Chang'An, the capital of Tang China at the time. There are many early shrines and temples in this city. In addition, many deer roam free throughout the city, believed to be sacred.
