Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

This area of Hiroshima was directly beside the hypocenter of the atomic bomb that was dropped in 1945. Since then, the district has been dedicated to keeping the memory of Hiroshima alive, to honor those who died and to promote world peace. There are numerous monuments, cenotaphs, and memorials. The most notable locations include the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome, and the Children's Peace Monument, which depicts a girl holding a paper crane, inspired on the true story of Sasaki Sadako, who was dying of leukemia as a result of the bomb and believed that if she folded one thousand cranes she would get better. The monument was dedicated to the children who died in the bomb.
